Goodbye RugbyZone

Goodbye RugbyZone

(This story originally appeared on BlitzBokke.com)

Some time ago,we reported that MultiChoice announced a change in their satellite server.

The result was that avid sports fans here in Asia were not going to be able to visit their nearest sports bar to watch their favourite teams play courtesy of SuperSport.

Our woes intensified yesterday when online channel RugbyZone announced that they will be shutting down the service at the end of 2010.

Many rugby supporters (and sportsbars) turned to RugbyZone when SuperSport disappeared from our screeens. This writer has been a subscriber (from Asia) from the inception of MediaZone and later RugbyZone. (Thank goodness we still have KuduClub!)

The channel reported that non availability of rugby rights for RugbyZone from 2011 forced the decision after their current rights expire at the end of 2010.

Where to now for our rugby fix?

Home?

Cheers RugbyZone…

It is a pity that Supersport will not cater for South African expats abroad and for other Supersport fans , either with satellite broadcasts or with internet streaming despite requests which have appeared often in blogs and in the press. They have continually tightened access. One can access their supersport.com for live streaming, but this can only be done from within the African region.

and they wonder why people turn to watching pirate streams
