DSTV in Hong Kong!

DSTV in Hong Kong!

I live in an apartment complex owned by Cheung Kong Holdings.  As such, I cannot subscribe to NowTV nor any PCCW products because Cheung Kong is in direct competition with Richard Li’s PCCW.  However, I still have an excellent broadband service so much of my (international) television viewing happens online.

Thankfully, I have a connection (I am from Cape Town after all… we have connections!) who allows me to stream some DSTV channels direct to my laptop.  Thanks to an interface, I can view these channels directly on my flat-screen TV.

I visited my favourite watering hole in WanChai the other day and the staff there were asking why they don’t see me these days.  Well, now you know.  I now have access to SuperSport’s excellent channels, while the missus loves watching the BBC Lifestyle & Travel channels again.  The kids are stoked at having their Nickelodeon back!

So, see ya! I have to go and watch the Currie Cup and Champions Trophy Cricket in the comfort of my lounge!  I even have my very own (Jake White) “fetcher” !

Cheers.

We arrived in Hong Kong in November 2009. Before we moved to HK we stayed in Beijing for 10 years and on the end of our contact in Beijing we had the best 8 months of TV !!! I discover some one that installed a (ilegual ) satelite and we had full coverage from DSTV! What a pleasure!!!! We miss this very much in Hong Kong! My husband is South Africa born from German parents and left S.A. for bussines purposes in 1992, but going back home every year!!! We missing the Criquect, rugby mostly!!! Can you help us to get connected to DSTV ??? Some tips, address’s etc.??? Our provide is PCCW and Now TV. We leave in the Gold Coast NT. my cel 97620446 home 240 45578.
We have been at HK stadium for rugby 7′s!!! What fun!!! If we can get tickets again we will be there next year again!!!!
Looking forward to your response! Thank You! Have a nice day!

Paula, if you live in a ‘free-standing’ house or you’re able to install a satellite dish somewhere on your building, there are people in HK who can install and arrange a smart-card for you.

However, there is online chatter that Multi-choice will be “taking steps” soon that will prevent people from (illegally) picking up the DSTV service here in Asia.

I unfortunately don’t have access to the DSTV stream on my computer anymore, so it’s back to the sports bars for me!

  5. Paula and Hans Volkmer says:

Mike thanks for your quick response! Apreciated!!! But could you give me your direct mail or phone number so that I can chat on telephone with you? If not possible I still would like to know the contacts for the satelite’s???

I understood your concern about the “steps” that will be taken by DSTV but I/we are still prepare to take a chance! Please let me know some conatacts.
    Have a good evening!

We live in the USA, does anybody know how we can get DSTV here? We tried but with no luck!

  8. Skevs says:

DSTV no longer broadcasts its signal outside of SA. The only other way would be to buy a slingbox and send it to someone in SA with a half decent internet line and a PVR decoder.

  9. Harald says:

Have you found a solution to the DSTV dilema in Hong Kong yet? Moving there soon would like to view DSTV there and would love to assist in any way. currently still residing in SA.
